The Road goes ever on and on Down from the door where it began. Now far ahead the Road has gone, And I must follow, if I can, Pursuing it with eager feet, Until it joins some larger way Where many paths and errands meet. And whither then? I cannot say. J.R.R. Tolkien

Too Busy

I've been so busy with baby stuff I have been remiss in keeping my blog up to date! Quick rundown:

Work is insane! Been working alot of weekends and travelling to a client site in Kitchener (good news - I get $100 in expense money for each day I do that trek - I've ordered a new laptop with the money from April trips).

I started my third trimester last week! The baby is moving around a lot and kicking up a storm. There have only been two times when I could feel / see the baby move on the outside. This week I go for my gestational diabetes test (hopefully everything goes well).

The baby room was painted this weekend and it looks amazing. I huge THANKS to Teresa, Heidi, Karen, Kevin, Mike, Dorie and Lisa for all their help over the past couple of weekends. I hated not being able to help with the painting and everyone was awesome in giving up their weekends to help me out. The room is yellow and burgundy and I can't wait to finish decorating.

Mike and Kevin carried the new dresser up the three flights of stairs (yes, the stairs are horrible). I can now start moving clothes from the closet into the dresser and start setting up the room. I still need to get new window treatments, though. The blinds have been there since before I moved in and they are pretty disgusting.

I'm about to start on the next baby knitting project: a lace type covering for the bassinet. When I was born my mom's friend gave her a wicker bassinet (so it's over 37 years old). Unfortunately, she was killed in a plane crash shortly after that. My dad is building a rocker and a new custom mattress has been purchased. Now, I just need to figure out how to knit the 'shawl'. I really hope it works out.

That's about all I have time for today!

Stress

It's rare that I get stressed at work. I've been very good at separating work and home life for the past ten years. But, I think it may have crept up on me. I have developed an eye twitch and a back problem in the past two weeks.

I had to leave work early yesterday due to the back issue and the eye is driving me crazy daily. Who knows if it is just stress from work, or stress from trying to date a guy that is completely unavailable, or the inability for my stepmother and I to get along. Who knows, but I think the work stress is higher than it has been at any other place I've worked. It's not the deadlines, it's the lack of process. But, who knows. I do know that my back hurts and I have a wonky eye.

One Month In

I can't believe it, but I've been at the new job for a month now. It seems like it just flew by. So different than the time at AIM. It is so nice to have actual work to do. Things seem to be going well. They have me working on a number of different things and are really happy with what I've done so far. The contract is for 4 months, but I suspect there is a good chance it will be extended.

I believe I've figured out the commute. If I leave around 7am, the drive takes between 30 and 40 mins. This allows me to leave work around 4:30 and it takes about the same amount of time to get home. Unless of course, we're talking about a Friday afternoon. Then it takes about an hour to get home. I am not complaining. It's still better than the hour and fifteen minutes it used to take to get to the casino and it took about that long to get to AIM on the bus. I need to find some more books on CD, though. I forgot to pick some up this week so I've been stuck with the radio and my ipod (don't get me wrong, I love my ipod - but I listen to it all day at work).

It's Friday and that's exciting! This weekend I'm off to the stamp show with Julia (both of our father's used to collect stamps so we thought we'd check it out). Then I'm heading to Oshawa to see Heidi and Jen (and Heidi gets to play around with the Mini again). I'm hoping to get out and play cards with Rod and Darlene tonight and dinner with Lisa (and maybe Kevin) on Sunday. Another packed weekend.

Last night I headed to Burlington to meet up for dinner with my sisters and a couple of their friends. It was an awesome time. My sisters are so beautiful! After dinner I followed Linds over to her new apt. It's gorgeous. The colours they chose are amazing. I'm really happy for her. I was worried when she moved in with Mike so soon after meeting him, but she seems really happy. As if my evening wasn't jam packed enough, I then drove over to Karen and Kevin's for a quick visit. Karen chopped off all her hair. It looks really good, but it's so different! We watched part of the hockey game (Karen is a Habs fan and was very happy with the 4-1 win). We also watched part of The Office. I had only ever watched one episode and it annoyed me, but I found myself chuckling quite a bit. I may have to give it another try.

Possible Job

I had a great interview yesterday and it sounds like the contracts should get signed today and I could start Monday morning! I'm excited and scared (which always bodes well). The only problem: it's the DVP and Wynford. Not looking forward to that drive.

I woke up feeling really horrible this morning. The cat started whining at 5:30am and then I was wide awake. I stayed up for about two hours and then went back to bed. I had the most horrible dream. I was trying to read a trivia question, but the words kept going out of focus and then I kind of passed out and fell on the floor. This happened twice. I couldn't speak or move any limbs. It was horrible. Now I'm up and have no energy. I'm wondering if it was from all the adrenaline I used up yesterday :). I was in a really good mood yesterday.

Looking for a New Job

I had a meeting with my boss last week and we made a decision on when my contract will end. We are targeting the end of October. So, I'm starting to look for a business analyst job in Toronto.

I spent all day in Toronto yesterday and I can not wait to be back downtown.

Left Handed Mouse

I'm right-handed, but I use a left-handed mouse. I hardly ever use a mouse so it really doesn't matter to me what hand I use for the mouse at my computer. I was having a problem with my right wrist a couple of years ago, so I switched.

This was all well and good for the most part. The only problems I really had were when someone had to remote to my computer or a techie had to stop by and do something. It was actually pretty funny.

This was until I couldn't sort columns in the software application I use all day. I thought it was a bug in a new version of the software. But, it was working for everyone else in the office, but not for me. I reinstalled, changed computers, nothing was working.

On a whim I decided to try switching my mouse buttons back to being right-handed. Low and behold that worked. It wasn't that the opposite buttons had to be pushed, it was that the options didn't work at all if the mouse was set up left-handed. Talk about bad programming. And once again the helpdesk couldn't help me, I had to figure the problem out by myself. Note to self: left-handed people are discriminated against by programmers :). Don't get me started on colour-blindness and software.

Best Investment

I had a meeting today to go over the project I'm working on. One of the guys in the meeting said that this was the best investment he had seen in awhile. Woo hoo. It is nice to hear that I'm doing a good job and will make people's jobs easier.

I had a 12 hour day yesterday. It was great. Yes, this is what I thrive on. Maybe I'm not suffering from depression, I'm just suffering from boredom. I was up early yesterday and today. I haven't had a 12 hour day since I was working at Nortel or when I did my first Heat implementation at ESI. I was missing that feeling when a project is ramping up and there are so many things to get done in a short period of time.

I am super tired today, though. The cats woke me up at 4am. Placenta Head has some how figured out how to scratch the couch with his new plastic claws. I swear he is going to give me a stroke or a heart attack.

Office

Today I moved into my very first office. I have a door. It is all very exciting. I hope this means that my contract is getting extended.

It means that I no longer have to get the tech guys to open the door to the room I work in. I have a key to my office and can actual access this room. Woo hoo!
